It was such an honor to finally perform a piece by Casey Cangelosi!!! I have always wanted to play his multiple-percussion and snare drum solos for quite a while...I even enjoy his chamber pieces! Performing this was such a treat, for I got to learn a new element of physical performing. Heck, I may be all set to learn Applebaum's "Aphasia" now!
This piece is special to the UA Percussion Studio. In the summer of 2018, Cangelosi visitied Tucson for a week for the first annual Tocalo Tucson Summer Chamber Percussion Seminar. During the final concert of this seminar, this piece premiered as the concert's opener. Not only must have it felt great to have that piece return to Crowder Hall once again after over two years, but as said, I personally feel honored to have been a part of this performance!

This piece was definitely the most challenging of this past semester. I am so thankful to have had the chance of getting this piece recorded. It is an underrated yet challenging chamber piece, and I hope the recording will influence the world of modern chamber percussion in any way.

Back in December of 2019, Professor Mark Ford of University of North Texas College of Music visited Tucson and gave the UA Percussion Studio a masterclass on marimba, recording for practicing, and preparation for juries. His insight towards the world of individual practice was and is inspiring and astounding, and he is one of my marimba idols. Before leaving, he gave us the score of one of his chamber percussion compositions as a gift.
This piece was unique for me, for it wasn't in the category of traditional chamber percussion. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the aspect of mastering a new accessory instrument. Letting loose once in a while feels good mentally, and my colleagues and I got to do so with some theatric and comedic elements throughout the piece. We began learning this piece and also had it polished before the COVID-19 pandemic, so it was such a treat to finally give this piece the epic conclusion of a performance that it deserves. Overall, the best part about this piece was doing so with my colleagues that I call friends!

It is such a heartwarming feeling to know that I got to perform in person with the Pride of Arizona Marching Band, especially amidst a very scary and uncertain time! It truly shows that there is nothing this group cannot accomplish! This recording was eventually used for this year's Virtual Band Day, which happened the following Saturday of that week.
